Low-Carb Snacks

Multiple medical sources highly recommend a diet low in carbohydrates and so the idea has become popular and even highlighted in ads by the food industry for low carb snacks.

It is true that many people who need to lose weight can benefit from such a diet. Medical experts advise this diet for those fighting diabetes. According to Christine Many Luff on dLife.com, The American Diabetes Association states that both a low-carbohydrate and a low-fat diet are identically successful in assisting people to loose weight over a year's time.

(1)Of course, whenever someone is going on a special diet, caution is important. Bettina Newman, R.D. and David Joakim suggest in their article in Prevention Magazine, 21 September 2004, that people should be sure to tailor their calorie intake in accordance with their daily activity level.

(2) Next, Kathie Hanlon, from Vanderbilt University, states that carbohydrates are in almost all foods, but some foods are especially high in carbohydrates like sugars and starches. It is wise not to maintain extremely low-levels of carbohydrates over a long period because the body needs a ballanced diet. Still, those who should lose weight often over-eat on carbohydrate rich foods. By choosing foods lower in carbohydrates, they can lose weight.

(3)Anyone can choose healthy, low carb snacks and treat their bodies to healthy vitamins, minerals and energy fuel. It is wise to make healthy choices for prevention of disease and promoting vitalized life and the options can be simple. Here are some of the many types of low carb snacks that are healthy and satisfying:

- Carrot, celery and pepper sticks dipped into low-fat ranch or other flavored dips
- Fresh fruit, like apples, cherries, grapes and oranges.
- Raw almonds
- Yogurt
- Fruit and yogurt smoothies
- Frozen (partially thawed) fruit with low fat whipped cream on top

Certainly, nothing is a better treat than fruit. It is bursting with flavor. No food looks as attractive as does fruits and vegetables. Substituting vegetables for chips with a favorite dip is a simple change that can make such a difference in digestion, and overall health.
